Negotiations continue in the attempt to avoid a strike.
Freight railroads said they are planning to halt the transportation of hazardous minerals and sensitive cargo, such as chemicals used for fertilizer and chlorine for water purification, as they continue negotiations with two major unions. Friday is the deadline for negotiations that include the companies of Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific that are still working to avoid a work stoppage.
Meanwhile, on Monday, President Biden’s administration urged railroads and unions to reach a deal to avoid a shutdown of the rail system, saying it would pose “an unacceptable outcome” to the U.S. economy.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce also called for “urgent action” in railroad labor negotiations to avoid a strike that could cost $2 billion a day and put a strain on the national economy.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Biden and his administration as they address supply chain and railway labor issues.
- For President and CEO Suzanne Clark to seek God’s direction as she heads the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
- For discernment for government and labor officials as negotiations regarding the rail system continue.
